Social Networks Through the Magnifying Glass of Preferential Attachment

In this talk, I will describe how preferential attachment arises from first principles using game theory. Next, I will extend the model of preferential attachment into a general model which incorporates dense subgraphs and highly fragmented networks. Then, I will discuss some examples relating to the extension of the preferential attachment model and the connection to Price's Square Root Law.
