High School Academy at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering at Bar-Ilan University is dedicated to nurturing and cultivating interest in engineering studies among exceptional high school students, allowing them to embark on degree studies while still in high school. The high school academy program's curriculum is designed to equip students with comprehensive and current knowledge across various engineering specializations, preparing them for seamless integration into the knowledge-rich industry and enhancing their contributions to its advancement.

Commencing in the summer after the 10th grade, the program spans four years.

During the summer sessions, students must take at least two academic courses: Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra 1.

Admission to the talented youth program is based on grades in the summer courses and the matriculation grade in mathematics (5 study units).

Criteria for continuing into the engineering track after the first year include fulfilling the first-year curriculum requirements and maintaining a minimum grade point average of 75. A student who falls short of the required standard at the end of the second semester but meets it after the second summer semester will still be eligible to continue studies at the Faculty of Engineering.

For those students interested in advancing their IDF enlistment while completing degree requirements, a maximum of 5 years is allotted from the start of full-time studies. Alternatively, students may pause their studies and resume them in full after completing military service, contingent upon presenting a study permit from the IDF.

The Faculty of Engineering offers several study programs as part of the high school academy:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering (Single major):

The studies in computer engineering include significant courses in the following subjects: computer architecture, computer communication, design of digital hardware systems, introduction to information security and computer networks, computer graphics, algorithms, and systems for computer-aided design and manufacturing. These courses are held together with core courses in computer science.

The studies in computer engineering include four specialization tracks, of which the student will choose one track:

  • Cyber Security.
  • Hardware Preparation.
  • Networks and Computation.
  • Data Processing and Analysis.

Curriculum details for the one-subject computer track are available here.

Bachelor's degree in computer engineering Combined with Physics Physics (Post-Degree):

The combined program is designed to provide students with an in-depth and broad scientific education in physics, combining scientific and technological knowledge in electronics, computers, and communications. Graduates of the program will be able to successfully integrate into high-tech companies that design systems that integrate software and hardware components. The range of companies includes those engaged in designing processors, communication systems, military systems, medical systems, software companies, data processing, computer graphics, robotics, aerospace, and many other fields.

The studies include four specialization tracks, of which the student will choose one track:

  • Cyber Security.
  • Hardware Preparation.
  • Networks and Computation.
  • Data Processing and Analysis.

Curriculum details for the physics-integrated computer track can be found here.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering Combined with Mathematics (Post-Degree):

The combined program is designed to provide students with an in-depth and broad scientific education in mathematics, combining scientific and technological knowledge in electronics, computers, and communications. Graduates of the unique program will be able to successfully integrate into advanced studies in research groups at leading universities and high-tech companies that require engineers with in-depth knowledge of mathematics.

Continuing Academic Studies for Program Graduates:

For those graduates aspiring to pursue further academic studies, the program offers several study tracks:

A. Course Accumulation Track: This track involves studying first-year courses of the Faculty of Engineering at Bar-Ilan University throughout the 11th and 12th grades.

B. Accelerated Track to Obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Two Years: The Faculty of Engineering at Bar-Ilan University has secured special approval from the military for this track. Graduates of the program will dedicate their 11th and 12th-grade years to completing half of the requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering. They will receive a two-year deferment of service from the army to finalize their degree in the two years following the twelfth grade. A tailored system has been devised to accommodate the unique needs of these students.
