Scientific breakthrough: revolutionary RNA molecule mapping technology
The technology, developed by the Faculty of Engineering’s Dr. Shahar Alon in collaboration with experts from MIT and Harvard, enables the comprehensive characterization of tissues from complex diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s
The prestigious Science Magazine recently published an article presenting a new technology for mapping RNA molecules inside tissues. Written by Dr. Shahar Alon from our Faculty, in collaboration with a team of experts from MIT and Harvard, the article shows how the technology enables the construction of 3D maps for RNA molecules inside brain tissue and cancerous tissue. “Thanks to our technology, doctors, and researchers will be able to conduct genomic analysis in 3D; this will not only reveal the identity of the molecules – but also their location within the tissue,” says Dr. Alon. “This will allow us to comprehensively characterize tissues, including tissues from patients with complex diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s.”
The article was widely lauded in media across the globe, with mentions in media outlets in France, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, Italy, and even Mexico. In Israel, news of the article was reported on in Galei Tzahal’s morning program, the Jerusalem Post, and the Hayadan website. Dr. Shahar Alon gave an in-depth interview in Kan’s podcast Three Who Know, which you can listen to right here>>
