Development of low-cost non-toxic materials for thermoelectric applications

Abstract

Thermoelectric materials are a conversion method to turn waste heat into usable electricity for a wide range of applications, from car and boat engines to steel factories and to weara-ble electronics. However, many of them are based on expensive, rare and toxic elements. In this talk we will examine some new results in low cost, abundant, non-toxic, high stability materials for thermoelectric applications. The ionic-electronic conductivity in the TiO2-SrF2 system will be discussed showing promise abundant thermoelectric material and as fast fluo-ride ion conductor. The thermoelectric properties of Cu doped TiNiSn based materials will be examined. Simple methods for producing of CuInX2 type materials will be shown resulting in interesting properties and some preliminary results in the Bi2O3-Bi2Te3 system will also be shown as promising future materials. Finaly the idea of using oxyfluorides and oxychelcogenides as ion conducting, ionic-thermoelectric and electronic materials will be explored as a starting point for new classes of materials.

 Short bio: 

Dr. Yatir Sadia earned his Ph.D. in Material Engineering at Ben Gurion University in 2020. He is an active researcher in NRCN since 2010 in the field of green energy research. He was a visiting researcher at Imperial College of London in 2017-2018 and again in 2023-2024. He won the Pazi Grant for his research there and the Katzir Scholarship for research for his research in NRCN. He occasionally teaches at the department of Material Engineering at Ben Gurion University along with his research at NRCN. Yatir has publisher over 25 papers in peer reviewed journals and has given many talks and invited talks in conferences.
