Bio-Inspired Engineering: Fundamentals to Applications
In all living organisms, whether very basic or highly complex, nature provides a multiplicity of materials, architectures, systems and functions. Biologically inspired engineering uses these design principles to develop new engineering solutions. Central challenges in this field are the understanding of the complex mechanisms used by nature and developing practical synthetic applications that mimic it. In this presentation I will discuss strategies for designing bio-inspired materials for medicine and biotechnology as well as new concepts in drug delivery and tissue reconstruction.
