Radially polarized lasers are superior over linearly polarized lasers.
They can cut metal in cleaner and more accurate shapes, can be used for super-resolution microscope and can accelerate particles.
However, current radially polarized lasers are done in free-space. We will develop a novel method for obtaining highly efficient radially polarized fiber lasers.
The student will learn about different polarization states,
will learn how to manipulate fibers and will build the system and measure the output.
This project is highly likely to produce a paper.
