Atomic Force Microscope

תיאור הפרויקט ותכולתו:

We recently acquired an atomic force microscope (AFM), which is completely open source for both software and hardware. There are a set of projects (suitable for more than one group) available on this instrument:

1. Design and implement improvements to this system. The system is open source and there is much potential for improvements which will be
publicized within the user community.

2. Use the AFM to study CR-39 radiation detectors. CR-39 radiation detectors are used to detect high energy particles and ions. The AFM
can be used to study these detectors and are them more quantitative.

3. We have a "dunk and scan" attachment that should enable us to view live cells in fluid. We would like to develop this capability. This is a challenging project.

דרישות:

The main requirement is to be able to learn new material. For improvement of the instrument (project #1), Labview programming, and control theory will be useful.
Project #2 will involve some light microscopy and optical modelling.
