Using Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) in Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) method

תיאור הפרויקט ותכולתו:

Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) is a printing method which allows solid bulk metals to be printed directly. The backside of the supplier material, which is a transparent substrate coated with a thin layer of metal, is heated with a pulsed laser. The metal undergoes a phase change and a small volume of the metal is propelled towards an acceptor substrate. By using nanosecond laser pulses and by tuning the laser spot size, energy and the metal layer thickness, LIFT can be performed in the droplet regime where each laser pulse causes the ejection of a single metal droplet. The high resolutions which are attainable by LIFT when working in the droplet regime, as well as the ability to print almost any material, gives LIFT a strong potential to be used in printed electronics applications.
Usually LIFT is done by Gaussian beam. In this project we will use a SLM as a beam shaper, to study the influence of various spatial beam shape (ring, Bessel, top-hat) on the printing results.
