Nuclear Detector Microscopy

תיאור הפרויקט ותכולתו:

High energy particles and fission products can be detected with flat plastic sheets which are etched to detect radiation damage, and then imaged in a bright field microscope. These system are used in studies ranging from basic nuclear physics and cosmology to nuclear forensics.
The goal of this project is to design and build an automated microscope for imaging and screening these detectors.

This project will include:
1. Design of a transmitted light microscope capable of resolving the relevant features of the detectors. The scope will include automated screening of detectors up to 1cm x 1cm in area, active focus control, and high resolution digital image acquisition.
2. Development of a set of image segmentation and analysis algorithms to process the very large (possible a few GB) datasets that will be generated
