Design and characterization of physical unclonable function (PUF) for reliable secure hardware

תיאור הפרויקט ותכולתו:

Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is unique and emerging concept in hardware security that enables storing secrets in a piece of hardware in unrecoverable manner. Since every PUF in every device is getting unique identification when it is manufactured, it could be used for identification or authentication. Design of robust and reliable PUF for cryptographic systems requires significant reliability of the generated key on one hand and unique identity on the other hand. In recent years there were many propositions for PUFs implementation, yet building a system that provides both uniqueness and reliability is a difficult task. The purpose of this project is to build PUF primitive based on SRAM memory cell with desired reliability propertied.

The project includes building a setup of physical unclonable function based on SRAM cells and integration of the cell into an array that is capable of generating key based on challenge submitted to the module. The array will be characterized at various conditions and statistical model will be used to evaluate the design and extract the PUF properties. The project will enables the student a substantial knowledge in hardware security and practical circuit design and characterization.
