Technique for improving SRAM PUF reliability

Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is unique and emerging concept in hardware security that enables storing secrets in a piece of hardware in unrecoverable manner. Since every PUF in every device is getting unique identification when it is manufactured, it could be used for identification or authentication. Design of robust and reliable PUF for cryptographic systems requires significant reliability of the generated key on one hand and unique identity on the other hand. In recent years there were many propositions for PUFs implementation, yet building a system that provides both uniqueness and reliability is a difficult task. The purpose of this project is to build PUF primitive based on SRAM memory cell with desired reliability propertied.
The project includes building a setup of physical unclonable function based on SRAM cells and implementing a novel algorithm which can assess the reliability of the cells, select highly reliable cells and correct unreliable readings. These assessments will enable robust identification recovery. The project will enables the student a substantial knowledge in hardware security and practical circuit design and characterization.
