Field of View Expansion and Spatial Super-Resolution of Colored Images by Arrays of Micro-Mirrors

Optical designers are required to choose between optics with a wide field of view and low spatial resolution or between optics with a narrow field of view and high resolution. Therefore, systems with both a wide field of view and a high resolution are highly desirable. In this study, we offer several methods of computational optics that allow the improvement of these two capabilities separately or simultaneously. The encodings for our methods are implemented using digital micro-mirrors devices which are in various optical plains of the system. We developed two methods to improve the resolution of color filter array cameras, using a binary encoding at the intermediate image plane. In addition, we developed a method for a field of view expansion of broadband cameras using a pair of chirp gratings. The gratings are placed at the entrance pupil plane of the optical system which performs achromatic transitions of the image across the detector surface. We demonstrate and provide simulations to prove our methods, and bring forward some of the tested experiments
